Why low salt in diet and cooking?
Salt, also know as Sodium is a mineral found widely in
foods that we eat everyday. Nowadays, many people reducing the
consumption of salt due to multiple health reasons. Too much in
the meal can cause human body to retain excess fluid, which then
collected in different parts of body like ankles, lung, belly, and
hands. This will then associated with the high blood pressure,
heart and kidney problems, as well as osteoporosis and other bone
disorders. However, that's doesn't mean we will need to totally cut off
this type of mineral. We actually need them to enable the body function
properly, but not too much. Nutrition experts recommend 1.5g intake a
day. Controlling the consumption in everyday meal and diet is
essential for good health.
What is low sodium cooking method?
Beside the consumption of sodium from the saltshaker, it exist in many others foods. Not to mentioned those
salty processed foods, some foods contain it naturally, for example carrots,
beets, spinach, celery, even water filtered by a water softener. Low salt cuisine, as it's named
is to use lower salt content or not using it at all in the cooking, while
still maintain
the great taste of the recipes. To achieve this, garlic, lemon
juice, pepper, spices (curry powder and chilies), herbs (parsley, mint
coriander, tamarind etc) and onion powder are excellent substitutes in
